Protein Coding Gene : Gabra6 gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor subunit alpha 6

Primary Identifier  MGI:95618 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  11 NCBI Gene Number  14399
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables transmitter-gated monoatomic ion channel activity involved in regulation of postsynaptic membrane potential. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including GABAergic synaptic transmission; chloride transmembrane transport; and inhibitory synapse assembly. Is active in cerebellar Golgi cell to granule cell synapse. Is expressed in central nervous system and retina. Orthologous to human GABRA6 (gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor subunit alpha6).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele are viable and fertile with normal cerebellar cytoarchitecture and normal responses to ethanol, pentobarbital and general anesthetics. Mice homozygous for a reporter allele are behaviorally normal and lack a cochlear phenotype. [provided by MGI curators]
