Chromosome | 11 | NCBI Gene Number | 20606 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables somatostatin receptor activity. Acts upstream of or within adenylate cyclase-inhibiting G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway and neuropeptide signaling pathway. Located in plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; cochlea; eye; intestine; and liver and biliary system. Orthologous to human SSTR2 (somatostatin receptor 2). PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for a null allele show elevated anxiety and locomotor and exploratory deficits. Homozygotes for a reporter allele show altered motor coordination, somatostatin-induced dopamine and glutamate release, retinal rod bipolar cells and EEG patterns, and reduced infarction after focal ischemia.
