Protein Coding Gene : Grin2c glutamate receptor, ionotropic, NMDA2C (epsilon 3)

Primary Identifier  MGI:95822 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  11 NCBI Gene Number  14813
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables NMDA glutamate receptor activity; monoatomic cation channel activity; and transmitter-gated monoatomic ion channel activity involved in regulation of postsynaptic membrane potential. Involved in regulation of synaptic plasticity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including excitatory postsynaptic potential; neuromuscular process controlling balance; and protein localization to postsynaptic membrane. Located in postsynaptic membrane. Part of NMDA selective glutamate receptor complex. Is active in glutamatergic synapse and postsynaptic density membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; colon; eye; gallbladder; and genitourinary system. Orthologous to human GRIN2C (glutamate ionotropic receptor NMDA type subunit 2C).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for targeted null mutations exhibit deficits in motor coordination and reduced granule cell responses to N-methy-D-aspartate in brain slices. [provided by MGI curators]
