description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Involved in cerebral cortex development. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including Notch signaling pathway; establishment of cell polarity; and radial glial cell differentiation. Located in apical junction complex. Is expressed in brain; brain pia mater; brain subventricular zone; diencephalon; and telencephalon. Used to study hydrocephalus. Orthologous to human CCDC85C (coiled-coil domain containing 85C). PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mutant mice display hydrocephalus, intracranial hemorrhage due to ventricular dilatation, and heterotopia in the subcortical regions. Hydroencephaly usually becomes evident before 15 weeks of age and affected animals die within several days after notice. [provided by MGI curators] |
