Chromosome | 15 | NCBI Gene Number | 73739 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Predicted to enable beta-catenin binding activity and protein homodimerization activity. Involved in cardiac muscle cell differentiation and fat cell differentiation. Acts upstream of or within cilium assembly; floor plate development; and negative regulation of canonical Wnt signaling pathway. Located in centriole and ciliary basal body. Is expressed in heart; liver; lung; and olfactory epithelium. Used to study otitis media and primary ciliary dyskinesia. Orthologous to human CBY1 (chibby 1, beta catenin antagonist). PHENOTYPE: Most homozygous null mice are anemic and runted and die around weaning. Survivors develop sinusitis and otitis due to lack of mucociliary transport and a paucity of airway cilia. Adult lungs show enlarged alveoli, reduced proliferation, epithelial cell dysmorphology and reduced pulmonary function. [provided by MGI curators] |
