Protein Coding Gene : Gramd1c GRAM domain containing 1C

Primary Identifier  MGI:2443024 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  16 NCBI Gene Number  207798
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables cholesterol binding activity and cholesterol transfer activity. Involved in cellular response to cholesterol. Located in endoplasmic reticulum membrane; endoplasmic reticulum-plasma membrane contact site; and plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; genitourinary system; respiratory system; and ventricular layer. Orthologous to human GRAMD1C (GRAM domain containing 1C).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele are viable and exhibit normal body weight and no significant changes in plasma, liver, or fecal levels of cholesterol and various plant and animal-derived sterols under divergent dietary cholesterol conditions, but do show decreased deoxycholic acid and increased plasma cortisol levels under low dietary cholesterol.
