description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Predicted to enable protein folding chaperone and unfolded protein binding activity. Acts upstream of or within binding activity of sperm to zona pellucida. Located in cell body. Part of chaperonin-containing T-complex and zona pellucida receptor complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; heart; nervous system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human CCT8 (chaperonin containing TCP1 subunit 8). PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele show complete embryonic lethality prior to organogenesis. In vitro, embryos fail to hatch from the zona pellucida and die after 3 days in culture, never forming outgrowths. [provided by MGI curators] |
