Protein Coding Gene : Itih5 inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor, heavy chain 5

Primary Identifier  MGI:1925751 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  2 NCBI Gene Number  209378
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Predicted to enable serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity. Predicted to be involved in hyaluronan metabolic process. Located in collagen-containing extracellular matrix. Is expressed in several structures, including genitourinary system; gut; limb segment; meninges; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human ITIH5 (inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 5).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a null allele exhibit thin skin with thinner epidermis and stratum corneum and decreased keratinocyte proliferation in culture. Mice show increased adipose tissue mass, with increased proliferation and adipogenic differentiation of adipose stem cells that are more responsive to stimulation with inflammatory mediators.
