Chromosome | 2 | NCBI Gene Number | 74711 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables tubulin-glutamic acid ligase activity. Acts upstream of or within flagellated sperm motility and protein polyglutamylation. Located in ciliary basal body. Is expressed in 1-cell stage embryo and 8-cell stage embryo. Orthologous to human TTLL9 (tubulin tyrosine ligase like 9). PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit male infertility associated with oligozoospermia, detached sperm flagella, abnormal sperm axonemes with loss of doublet 7 and reduced polyglutamylation of doublet 5, and asthenozoospermia with frequent stalls after anti-hook bending.
