Protein Coding Gene : Adad1 adenosine deaminase domain containing 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:103258 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  3 NCBI Gene Number  21744
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables RNA binding activity. Involved in spermatid development. Located in male germ cell nucleus. Is expressed in brain; genitourinary system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human ADAD1 (adenosine deaminase domain containing 1).
PHENOTYPE: Nullizygous mutations of this gene result in male infertility and abnormal spermiogenesis. Male mice homozygous for a null allele have show reduced sperm counts and motility, and increased sperm malformation resulting in background-dependent sterility. [provided by MGI curators]
