Chromosome | 4 | NCBI Gene Number | 72181 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables small ribosomal subunit rRNA binding activity. Involved in cytosolic ribosome assembly; positive regulation of mitochondrial translation; and rRNA methylation. Located in mitochondrion. Is expressed in several structures, including branchial arch; central nervous system; limb bud; neural ectoderm; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human NSUN4 (NOP2/Sun RNA methyltransferase 4). PHENOTYPE: Constitutive homozygous KO is embryonic lethal. Conditional KO in the heart leads to reduced mitochondrial ribosome assembly, which impairs biogenesis of the respiratory chain complexes in mitochondria and leads to premature death.
