Primary Identifier | MGI:96493 | Organism | mouse, laboratory |
Chromosome | 5 | NCBI Gene Number | 16069 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables IgA binding activity and protein-macromolecule adaptor activity. Contributes to immunoglobulin receptor binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including defense response to symbiont; glomerular filtration; and positive regulation of respiratory burst. Part of dimeric IgA immunoglobulin complex. Is expressed in intestine; serum; and spleen. Orthologous to human JCHAIN (joining chain of multimeric IgA and IgM). PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for a null allele show increased IgA level and alterations in IgA transport and in susceptibility to viral and parasitic infections. Homozygotes for another null allele show increased IgA level, decreased IgM level, reduced numbers of IgM plasma cells, and impaired IgM immune responses. [provided by MGI curators] |
