Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables calcium channel regulator activity and voltage-gated calcium channel activity. Involved in chemical synaptic transmission and presynaptic modulation of chemical synaptic transmission. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including behavioral fear response; learning or memory; and transmission of nerve impulse. Located in presynaptic membrane. Is active in glutamatergic synapse. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; eye; reproductive system; and spinal cord. Used to study Werdnig-Hoffmann disease. Orthologous to human GRM7 (glutamate metabotropic receptor 7). PHENOTYPE: Nullizygous mice exhibit seizures and deficits in ejaculation, fear response and conditioned taste aversion. Homozygotes for a knock-in allele show impaired spatial working memory and higher susceptibility to pentylenetetrazol. Homozygotes for a reporter allele show impaired coordination and higher susceptibility to metrazol. [provided by MGI curators] |
