Protein Coding Gene : Fosb FBJ osteosarcoma oncogene B

Primary Identifier  MGI:95575 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 NCBI Gene Number  14282
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Involved in positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Acts upstream of or within cellular response to calcium ion. Predicted to be located in cytosol and nucleoplasm. Predicted to be active in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; gut; male reproductive gland or organ; skeleton; and skin. Orthologous to human FOSB (FosB proto-oncogene, AP-1 transcription factor subunit).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for a null allele show impaired nurturing behavior, altered behavioral tolerance to repeated motor seizures, reduced NMDA-mediated synaptic currents, and altered paradoxical sleep. Aging mice homozygous for another null allele may exhibit occasional tonic-clonic or generalized seizures. [provided by MGI curators]
