description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables DNA binding activity and DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific. Involved in glucose mediated signaling pathway; lipid homeostasis; and positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter by glucose. Acts upstream of or within lactation; positive regulation of DNA-templated transcription; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; dorsal root ganglion; early conceptus; genitourinary system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human USF2 (upstream transcription factor 2, c-fos interacting). PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mutants are 20-40% smaller at birth and > 50% die postnatally, possibly because they are unable to nurse. In survivors, a proportionate dwarfism is maintained into adulthood. Males are usually infertile and die before 6 months of age. [provided by MGI curators] |
