Chromosome | 7 | NCBI Gene Number | 16828 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables L-lactate dehydrogenase activity. Involved in pyruvate catabolic process. Acts upstream of or within glucose catabolic process to lactate via pyruvate. Located in sperm fibrous sheath. Is active in cytosol. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; nervous system; respiratory system; sensory organ; and urinary system. Orthologous to human LDHA (lactate dehydrogenase A). PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for one chemically induced mutation exhibit severe hemolytic anemia with pronounced reticulocytosis and hyperbilirubinemia. Another mutation results in prenatal lethality in homozygotes. [provided by MGI curators] |
