Protein Coding Gene : Maz MYC-associated zinc finger protein (purine-binding transcription factor)

Primary Identifier  MGI:1338823 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 NCBI Gene Number  17188
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity; and chromatin binding activity. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including genitourinary system; hemolymphoid system; limb; nervous system; and retina. Orthologous to human MAZ (MYC associated zinc finger protein).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit fetal and postnatal lethality, kidney agenesis, and impacts fertility in rare surviving mice. Mice heterozygous for this allele exhibit fetal lethality and abnormal bladder function and architecture. [provided by MGI curators]
