Protein Coding Gene : Herpud1 homocysteine-inducible, endoplasmic reticulum stress-inducible, ubiquitin-like domain member 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:1927406 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  8 NCBI Gene Number  64209
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables ubiquitin-like ligase-substrate adaptor activity. Involved in protein targeting to ER; regulation of ERAD pathway; and regulation of endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway. Acts upstream of or within endoplasmic reticulum unfolded protein response; regulation of protein ubiquitination; and ubiquitin-dependent protein catabolic process. Located in endoplasmic reticulum membrane and endoplasmic reticulum quality control compartment. Is expressed in several structures, including clavicle; craniocervical region bone; early conceptus; and olfactory epithelium. Orthologous to human HERPUD1 (homocysteine inducible ER protein with ubiquitin like domain 1).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit impaired glucose tolerance and decreased cerebral infarction size. [provided by MGI curators]
