Protein Coding Gene : Trim29 tripartite motif-containing 29

Primary Identifier  MGI:1919419 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  9 NCBI Gene Number  72169
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables p53 binding activity. Acts upstream of or within negative regulation of protein localization to nucleus and negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in cytoplasm. Is expressed in alimentary system; sensory organ; skin; and urethra. Orthologous to human TRIM29 (tripartite motif containing 29).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous inactivation of this gene protects male mice from Coxsackievirus B3-induced myocarditis by enhancing antiviral innate immunity, attenuating inflammation and cardiac damage, and improving cardiac function and survival rates. Primary neonatal cardiomyocytes from mice infected with cardiotropic viruses show reduced ER stress and apoptosis, decreased reactive oxygen species levels, and increased production of type I interferons.
