Protein Coding Gene : Elk1 ELK1, member of ETS oncogene family

Primary Identifier  MGI:101833 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  X NCBI Gene Number  13712
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables several functions, including mediator complex binding activity; transcription regulator activator activity; and transcription regulator inhibitor activity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including liver development; lung development; and positive regulation of DNA-templated transcription. Predicted to be located in several cellular components, including axon terminus; mitochondrial membrane; and neuronal cell body. Predicted to be active in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; genitourinary system; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human ELK1 (ETS transcription factor ELK1).
PHENOTYPE: Targeted inactivation of this gene causes no apparent phenotype. Hemizygous males carrying the HygTk gene of a null allele are sterile, likely due to aberrant expression of the Tk gene in the testis; phenotypic correction is obtained with a second null allele that does not contain the Tk gene.
