Chromosome | X | NCBI Gene Number | 74469 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Predicted to contribute to RNA polymerase II general transcription initiation factor activity. Acts upstream of or within flagellated sperm motility and spermatid development. Located in cytoplasm and male germ cell nucleus. Is expressed in bladder; brown fat; ovary; testis; and ureter. Orthologous to human TAF7L (TATA-box binding protein associated factor 7 like). PHENOTYPE: Targeted inactivation of this gene causes male subfertility, oligozoospermia, teratozoospermia, athenozoospermia, abnormal seminiferous tubules, and reduced testis weight on congenic but not on mixed strain backgrounds. Decreased brown fat tissue amount and enhanced skeletal muscle formation are also observed. [provided by MGI curators] |
