Chromosome | 5 | NCBI Gene Number | 22788 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables receptor ligand activity. A structural constituent of egg coat. Involved in several processes, including oogenesis; positive regulation of acrosome reaction; and regulation of gene expression. Acts upstream of or within binding activity of sperm to zona pellucida. Located in collagen-containing extracellular matrix and plasma membrane. Is expressed in ovary; ovary preantral follicle; and testis. Orthologous to human ZP3 (zona pellucida glycoprotein 3). PHENOTYPE: Homozygous female mutants are infertile. In these females oocytes lack a zona pellucida and cumulus-oocyte complexes are disrupted. Oocytes of heterozygous females have a thin zona, but females are fertile. [provided by MGI curators] |
