abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 1. Hemolytic anemia: A spontaneous mutation resembling jaundiced (ja) has arisen in the DBA/1J stock. This condition gives rise to neonatal anemia, microcytosis, and jaundice. Many of the affected offspring die within a few days of birth, but occasional animals survive 6 months or more. The gene is recessive in its action, and the symbol ha is suggested. Homozygous animals are infertile. Carriers when mated together have produced 125 offspring, 32 of which were jaundiced at birth, while matings with jaundiced heterozygotes (Jaja) have given rise to 21 offspring, all of which were normal. Test matings of these 21 animals with known carriers of jaundiced. (Jaja), and hemolytic anemia (Haha), indicate that 6 are of the genotype HaHaJaJa; 5 of the type HahaJaJa; 3 of the type HaHaJaja; and 7 which are HahaJaja. These results suggest that ha and ja are not members of the same allelic series. (S. Bernstein) |
