| description | EdaTa-25H. A female with the typical tabby phenotype resulted from 6 Gy spermatogonial irradiation. She produced EdaTa-25H/+, +/+, and hemizygous EdaTa-25H daughters, but only hemizygous +/Y males. The EdaTa-25H hemizygous daughters were chromosomally XY, and, rather than ovaries, had abdominally located testes. This indicated a deletion of both the Eda and Ar loci, which was given the symbol EdaTa-25H as an allele at the tabby locus. There is a shortage of both heterozygous and hemizygous EdaTa-25H mice, and EdaTa-25H/+ heterozygous females tend to have smaller litters than their wild-type sibs. Heterozygotes (but not hemizygotes) often show skeletal defects (J:14235). |
| molecularNote | Southern blot analysis shows that the deletion comprising Ta-25H extends, minimally, 1.5cM and deletes the locus Ar as well as Eda but does not delete the X-inactivation center Xic. |
