| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research news: Allelism of athetoid (ah) and dystonia (dt). Dr. Margaret C. Green kindly supplied us with athetoid from the Jackson Laboratory for testing against dystonia, following the suggestion of Dr. Robin L. Curtis that the similarity of the pathology made the identity or allelism of the two mutants seem very probable. Five matings of +/ah x +/dt produced 10 mutant phenotypes among 38 offspring. The ah/ dt mutants were indistinguishable by symptoms from dt/dt. The two genes are therefore proved to be allelic and possibly identical. Though athetoid was discovered before dystonia, I suggest that dystonia (dt) should be retained as the name for this locus, because it seems the more appropriate name and because dystonia has been published while I think athetoid has not.
