abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Linkage Data: 3. Non-agouti curly: change of symbol. Non-agouti curly (MNL 29: 38 and MNL 45: 25) has been proved to be a more extreme allele of md on chromosome 16, therefore the symbol is changed from nc to mdnc. Linkage tests with the centromere of chromosome 16 were performed. Only 1 crossover was found in 100 offspring tested from mdnc +/+ Rb16(16; 17)7 Bnr females crossed to mdnc +/mdnc+ males. (mdnc had previously been proved independent of T on chromosome 17). Subsequently AwAw mdncmdnc were crossed to +md mice, kindly supplied by Dr. Lane; the mdmdnc thus obtained had straight whiskers; umbrous coats (non-agouti backs with dark agouti flanks and belly) and darker than normal ears with a mixture of black, yellow and agouti pinna hairs: that is they are intermediate between agouti mdmd which have straight whiskers, a dark agouti central dorsum with slight darkening of the flanks and belly, and yellow pinna hairs, and mdncmdnc which have curly whiskers and completely black aa-type coats with black pinna hairs, even on AwAw.
