| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: A further mutation at the W locus. A spontaneous mutation at the W locus has occurred in our hpg stock which is maintained on a C3H/HeH - 101/H genetic background. Heterozygotes show less extensive white markings than typical for W<e+> but generally more than found in W<v+> animals. Homozygotes are black-eyed-whites which may survive until weaning age and occasionally into adulthood when they have proved sterile. Compounds with Rw are also black-eyed-whites but have significant pigmentation on the ears and scattered very small pigmented patches of coat on the dorsal areas of body and on the scrotum of males. They are viable and fertile in both sexes. Since haematological studies (Loutit) indicate that the mutation differs from both W<e> and W<v> it is being retained and has been given the provisional designation W<Ct>. (Cattanach) |
