abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: f. Position of Dey on Chr 2. A threepoint backcross has shown that Dickie's small eye (Dey) is proximal to pallid (pa) on Chr 2. The cross Dey + +/+ pa a X + pa a/+ pa a gave the following results: Dey + +: Female F1: 16; Male F1: 13; Total: 29 + pa a:Female F1: 41; Male F1: 61; Total: 102 + + +: Female F1: 4; Male F1: 4; Total: 8 Dey pa a: Female F1: 0; Male F1: 1; Total: 1 + pa +: Female F1: 19; Male F1: 8; Total: 27 Dey + a: Female F1: 7; Male F1: 3; Total: 10 + + a: Female F1: 0; Male F1: 1; Total: 1 Dey pa +: Female F1: 0; Male F1: 0; Total: 0 Total: 178 The deficiency of Dey/+ mice appears to be due to loss of Dey/+ mice rather than lowered penetrance of the Dey gene. (1) Recombination values based on all the mice are not significantly different from those based on the manifesting (Dey/+) class only; (2) there is a corresponding increase in the frequency of pa a/pa a mice; and (3) breeding records show preweaning loss of progeny. The combined data from male and female Fl mice gives the following RF values and order: Dey - 5.6 +/- 1.7 - pa - 21.3 +/- 3.1 - a. The distance between Dey and a is 25.8 +/- 3.3. Combining these data with those of Theiler et a1 (Anat. Embry. 155:81) for the Dey - a interval gives an RF of 19.0 +/- 1.8 (46 recombinants/491 total). (Davisson)
