abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: New Mutants and Linkages: 3. Osteopetrosis (op). This new recessive mutation arose spontaneously in C57BL/6J-dw at N3 in 1970. Homozygotes are recognized by absence of teeth, a short domed skull and shorter than normal legs and tail. Histological sections of femurs reveal a lack of marrow cavity resulting from an accumulation of bone. Osteopetrotic mice are smaller than normal sibs but reach a body weight of 20-30 gms if provided with adequate powdered food. They seem to live a normal life span if they reach adulthood. To date one op/op male and one female have bred. Tests for allelism with other osteopetrotic mutations Miwh, gl, and oc were negative. No linkage has been found with a, b, bt, p, wa-1. (Lane) |
