abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: M. M. Dickie. Research news: A disproportionate dwarfing (achondroplasia) which arose in strain AKR/J in February 1960 (Mi'& 23: 34) is due to recessive gene and the symbol cn is suggested. Crosses between heterozygotes in the AKR/J strain produced 17 achondroplastics out of 68 offspring. Many of the affected animals die between birth and weaning but several have matured and lived to 10 months of age. The cncn females have become pregnant but have not produced any viable offspring. One cncn male has matured and has been mated with normal sibs. Study of bone sections of one cncn female at 41 days of age show that there are abnormalities in epiphyseal development which will be studied more intensively at earlier ages.
