abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 4. Hypogonadism in scurfy (sf) males. Scurfy (sf/Y) males have been reported to be sterile. Examination of 2-3 week old animals has revealed that the testes are very small and abdominal. The coagulating glands and seminal vesicles are not visible to the naked eye, and there is no scrotum. Thus, the animals appear hypogonadal. No hormonal studies have yet been done. The absence of the scrotum is frequently the earliest feature by which scurfy males can be distinguished from their normal sibs, with the ichythosis appearing a few days later. In man, X-linked ichthyosis is in some cases accompanied by hypogonadism, and McKusick lists ichthyosis with hyponadism (30820) as a separate condition from ichthyosis with steroid sulphatase deficiency (Crocker, per. comm) and sf is located at a very different position on the X from Sts, this tends to confirm that ichthyosis with and without hypogonadism are indeed two different genetic conditions, which may be located at widely separated points on the X in man.
