| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research news: 1) New mutants. a) Foam-cell reticulosis, fm. This name and symbol are suggested for an autosomal recessive gene which mutated spontaneously in the CBA/H stock, and which results in an inherited lipid-storage disease. In affected homoxygotcs lipid-containing foam-cells replace the lymphoid tissue of the thymus and PeyerÕs patches and occur in smaller numbers in other tissues. Investigations suggest that the lipid may be a complex of lysolecithin and cholesterol and the disease is similar to Niemann-Pick disease in man. It is first detectable in mice of 2-3 months. We would be very pleased to hear of anyone interested in having this mutant for investigation. (Hulse, Lyon, C.E. Rowe). |
