abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: The recessive lethal neurological mutation which occurred in strain C3H/HeJ at this Laboratory in 1958 and was first reported in MNL 23 is now called teetering, symbol tn. The mutant is first classifiable at 25 - 30 days of age by its stiff, slow, unstable movements. The most outstanding characteristic is the assumption and maintenance of unusual postures. The mutant is not deaf and can swim if the head is above water. Just prior to death at about 5 weeks of age the animal looks emaciated and can neither stand nor walk and lies on its side with all limbs extended. A total of 971 animals have been raised from heterozygous parents; 711 normals and 260 teetering. |
