| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Osteosclerotic animals appeared in litters of the C57BL/6J-bf stock and in the W stock which was derived from C57BL/6J-bf. Affected animals are detectable at 10-12 days by a circling behavior, odd clubbing shape of feet, and absence of teeth. There is no pigment change in these mice. Skeletal preparations reveal extra deposition of bone at the chondrocostal junction and extra bone deposition in the hind limbs. Histological sections reveal failure of secondary bone resorption. The circling behavior becomes more noticeable with advancing age. Most affected animals die around 30-40 days of age but one has lived to 2 months of age. Tests for allelism with grey- lethal were negative. The double homozygote of grey- lethal and this mutant is viable. The suggested symbol is oc. |
