| description | Founder 215 shows an elevated level of transgenic protein expression and protein activity. Transgenic animals are normal at birth and exhibit temporary hyperkaratosis starting at 4-5 months of age followed by inflammation of the ears and base of the tail that result in ulcerative lesions by 7-8 months. The phenotypic alterations show strong penetrance. Some animals also exhibited a mild and transient inflammation around the eyes. |

Human keratin 14 promoter sequences direct expression of the transgene in the basal epithelium. Western blot also detected expression of the transgene in thymus and trachea of transgenic animals. Expression of the transgene was 18X that of endogenous protein as determined by Western blot analysis. Kinase activity of the transgene product was confirmed by PKC immunocomplex kinase assay. |
