Allele : Kcnj8<slmbr> potassium inwardly-rectifying channel, subfamily J, member 8; slumber

Primary Identifier  MGI:3626350 Allele Type  Chemically induced (ENU)
Gene  Kcnj8 Inheritance Mode  Recessive
Strain of Origin  C57BL/6J Is Recombinase  false
Is Wild Type  false
description  The mutation was identified as a result of immunocompromise observed in progeny of ENU-mutagenized mice during infection with mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV). Mice carrying this mutation show higher susceptibility than that observed in susceptible BALB/c mice.
molecularNote  Slumber mice exhibit the same phenotype as mayday mice, which contain a mutation in Kcnj8. Although they arose in distinct pedigrees, complementation testing indicated that slumber is allelic with mayday. Sequencing revealed that the slumber allele contains the same mutation as the mayday allele. The mutation in Kcnj8 consists of a deletion of exon 1 and most of exon 2, due to their replacement by an inverted segment of intron 2.
