| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: Linkage of Glutathione Reductase (Gr). In a report on glutathione reductase (Gr) polymorphism in mice Nichols and Ruddle (1975) Biochem. Genet. 13,323) established that the Gr locus maps 30 units from Es-1 on chromosome 8. The extension locus, e, maps a similar distance from Es-1 and there are reports that adding reduced glutathione to cultures of hair melanocytes caused them to produce yellow pigment. To determine whether the Gr locus is closely associated with the recessive yellow of the e locus we examined 86 backcross progeny from the cross (C57e/Ha X SWR/J) F>1< x C57e/Ha segregating for the e, Gr, Es-1 and Got-2. The loci Gr and e are not linked, 49/86 recombinants. Linkage with Got-2 (33 +/- 5), and Es-1, (30 +/- 5; was observed, however, confirming the reported linkage on chromosome 8. A map order of Gr Ð Es-1-Got-2 is indicated by the recombination data and the incidence of double recombinant types. (Frels and Chapman) |
