molecularNote  Part of the gene near the translation initiation site was replaced with an EGFP gene and kanamycin resistance cassette. Western blot analysis confirmed the expression of a 27 kDa band not present in wild-type samples. Immunohistochemistry confirmed expression in 96% of insulin-positive beta cells but not in the brain, kidneys or liver.
