abstractText | A cataract phenotype was identified in a NOD/ShiLtJ mouse and further characterization defined the age of onset between 1 and 2 months of age. Both eyes have the normal lens at two weeks of age, but have cataracts by 2 months of age. Suture lines are visable and lens fibers show, but no vacuolization has been found. This phenotype proved recessive and mapped to Chromosome 2. This phenotype persisted when backcrossed onto the C57BL/6J bachground for 6 generations. ERG testing found no abnormality either before or after cataract development. Because it arose at The Jackson Laboratory, we have named this mutation Jackson cataract (jcat). |
