The neo cassette was removed through subsequent Cre-mediated recombination. The mutation stabilizes the encoded peptide in the xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) form so that there is a reduced likelihood that it will be converted into the xanthine oxidase (XO) form. XO activity represents <20% of total activity in liver homogenates. |
