| abstractText | The Mammalian Gene Collection (http://mgc.nci.nih.gov/index_html) contains full-length cDNA clones of expressed mouse genes. These genes and their sequences have been curated and added to the Mouse Genome Informatics database. If sequence analysis by an MGI curator determined that there was no identity to existing mouse gene objects in MGI, the gene was named using the MGC accession ID. Curation of MGC genes by MGI Editorial Staff regularly leads to revised nomenclature, as more information becomes available about the function of these genes and their relationships to better characterized sequences. Nomenclature revisions and other curation of MGC genes incorporates knowledge about sequence associations to paralogous and orthologous sequences as well as recommendations from collaborative databases (NCBI, SWISS-PROT) and the scientific community.
