(1)C=BALB/cHeA and S=STS/A (See MNL 68, 83-85, 1983) Mtv-19 is a new locus on chromosome 1. Evidence for linkage comes from the SD patterns with chromosome 1 markers. Table 2 shows the results: Locus: Mtv-19; CXS RI strains: 1: S; 2: C; 3: S/X; 4: S; 5: C; 6: C; 7: S; 8: C; 9: S; 10: C/X; 11: S; 12: C; 13: S; 14: S. Mtv-20 is also a new locus. It seems to be located on chromosome 4 in a chromosomal area also rich in Ly genes. Table 3 shows the results: Locus: Mtv-20; CXS RI strains: 1: C; 2: S; 3: C; 4: C; 5: S; 6: C; 7: C; 8: S; 9: C; 10: S; 11: S; 12: C; 13: S; 14: S. Mtv-19 and Mtv-20, present in the STS/A strain, are most likely also present in the related GRS/A strain. The main difference between these two strains is the Mtv-2 locus of the GRS/A not present in the STS/A. Mtv-2 is responsible for the high incidence of mammary tumors in breeding GRS/A females.
