abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: A1cohol dehydrogenase isozymes (Adh-1 and Adh-3 on chromosome 3). Electrophoretic variants for the stomach isozyme (ADH-C2) and liver isozyme (ADH-A2) of alcohol dehydrogenase have been used in genetic analyses to demonstrate close linkage between the structural genes (Adh-3 and Adh-1 respectively ) encoding these enzymes. Previous studies have provided evidence for Adh-3 being localized on chromosome 3 near Va (Holmes; Biochem. Genet. 17: 461-472). No recombinants were observed between the Adh loci among 520 backcross animals, which places them less than 0.2 cM apart. The ADH-C2 variant was commonly observed in C57BL strains but was also found in castaneus, C17/Cri and SF/Cam strains. The ADH-A2 variant was only observed among the 65 strains examined in a strain derived from wild Danish mice (kindly supplied by Dr. V.M. Chapman, Buffalo, N.Y.). (Holmes and Duley) |
