abstractText  G protein-coupled receptor kinases (GRKs) play a critical role in the adaptation of receptors to continuous stimuli. Phylogenetic classification of the six mammalian GRKs suggests that they can be grouped into three subfamilies: (1) GRK1; (2) GRK2 and 3 (84% amino acid identity); and (3) GRK4, 5, and 6 (70% amino acid identity). Identical intron-exon organization of the Gprk4, Gprk5, and Gprk6 genes suggest that they have evolved by duplication of a common ancestral gene. In the present study, we report the chromosomal localization of the genes encoding mouse GRK5 (Gprk5) and GRK6 (Gprk6). The mouse Gprk5 gene is localized very close to the distal end of Chromosome 19 while the mouse Gprk6 gene is between D13Mit222 and D13Mit157 on Chromosome 13.
