abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: A cDNA probe for the proximal end of mouse chromosome 19. A mouse kidney cDNA probe, pMK1711, has been used to search for DNA variation among the inbred strains. Variant fragments were found with EcoRI and BamHI, but not with HindIII. The locus has been designated D19Rpl9. Strains A/J, AKR/J, ABP/Le, AU/SsJ, BALB/cByJ, BDP/J, C57BL/6J, C3H/HeJ, C3Heb/FeJ, C57BL/KsJ, CE/J, DW/J, FS/Ei, GRS/A, I/LnJ, LG/J, LP/J, 020/a, P/J, PL/J, RF/J, RIII/J, SEC/lRe, SJL/J, SM/J, STS/A, STX/A, SWR/J, YBR-br carry the b allele, a variant EcoRI fragment of about 18Kb. Strains BUB/BnJ, CBA/CaJ, CBA/J, C57BR/cdJ, C57L/J, C58/J, DBA/lJ, DBA/2J, MA/MyJ, MOLD/RkA, WB/ReJ carry the d allele, two EcoRI fragments of 4.8 and 4.4Kb. Seven other fragments are common to all strains. Segregation amoung the BxD and AkxL recombinant inbred strains are shown below: BxD RI Strains: 1: D; 2: B; 5: B; 6: D; 8: D; 9: B; 11: B; 12: B; 13: D; 14: B; 15: B; 16: B; 18: B; 19: B; 20: D; 21: B; 22: B; 23: D; 24: D; 25: B; 27: D; 28: B; 29: B; 30: B; 31: D; 32: B AKxL RI Strains: 5: A; 6: A; 7: A; 8: A; 9: A; 12: A; 13: L; 14: A; 16: L; 17: L; 19: L; 21: L; 24: A; 25: A; 28: A; 29: A; 37: A; 38: L There is one recombinant strain, AKxL 8, between this segregation pattern and that of Ly-10 (Tada et al., Immunol. Rev, 69: 98, 1982). The distance between it and Ly-10 is 0.6+/- .63cM with 95% confidence limits of 0.02 to 3.87 (Silver, J. Hered. 70: 436, 1985). Among the 15 inbred strains typed for both Ly-10 and D19Rpl9 only two, C58/J and MA/MyJ, are recombinant. (Elliott and Ehrenreich).
