abstractText  Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: Research News: 2. The map location of grey coat (grc) is confirmed on Chromosome 5. Grey coat, a recessive coat color mutation, arose in a non-inbred Peru stock maintained by Margaret Wallace at Cambridge, England (Wallace, M.E. and J. Ferguson, 1984, Mouse News Letter 71:18). Homozygotes are fully viable and have a subtle diluted coat color with white mottling on their bellies and light feet. We set up an intercross of Fl hybrids between CAST/Ei (Mus castaneus) and homozygous grey coat to confirm and refine the Chromosome 5 position for this mutation as previously reported by Margaret Wallace. Haplotype analysis of 25 F2 mice (50 meioses) produced from this cross gave the following centromere-to-telomere gene order and genetic distances in cM (+/- SE): D5Mit54 - 8.0 (+/- 3.8) - grc - 4.0 (+/- 2.8) - D5Mit9. A test of genetic complementation between grey coat (grc) and recessive spotting (rs) is underway but has not yet ruled out the possibility of allelism. We thank Alyce Young for technical assistance.
