abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: 5. A new locus in the Tla region. Dr. Kirsten Fischer Lindahl has reported a new locus in the Tla region, Qed-1 controlling a target antigen for unrestricted, T cell-mediated cytotoxicity: Cytotoxic T lymphocytes raised (by in vivo priming followed by in vitro restimulation) in the combinations B10.BR anti C3H/HeJ and C3H/HeJ anti B10.BR react in a complementary pattern with target cells from a number of strains not carrying the H-2k haplotype. They detect an antigen named Qed-1, controlled by a locus named Qed-1, in the Tla region, since C3H/HeJ anti B10.BR reacts with B6-Tlaa (this reaction defines Qed-1a,) but not with C57BL/ 6J whereas B10.BR anti C3H/HeJ reacts with C57BL/6J (defining Qed-1b), but not with B6-Tlaa. Other mouse strains can be typed for Qed-1 by the ability of excess cold target cells prepared from these mice to inhibit the lysis of 51 Cr-labeled B6-Tlaa targets by C3H/HeJ anti B10.BR (Qed-1a) or the lysis of C57BL/6J by B10.BR anti C3H/HeJ (Qed-1b). All strains so far tested have typed positive for either Qed-1a or Qed-1b. F1 hybrids between Qed-1a and Qed-1b strains express both antigens. Qed-1 maps to the right of Qa-2, since B6-Tlaa is Qed-1a, whereas B6-H-2k and B6.K2 are Qed-1b. Qed-1 is found on normal lymphocytes from normal thymus, spleen and lymph nodes as well as from nu/nu spleen and lymph nodes and on LPS, PHA, or ConA activated lymphoblasts. All Qed-1a strains are (to the extent that they have been typed) Tlaa or Tlad and Qa-1a, all Qed-1b strains are Tlab or Tlac and Qa-1b (with the possible exceptions of B6.KL, B6.K2, B10.D2, and DBA/2). Qed-1a: A.CA, A/J, AQR, A.TH, BUB/BnJ, B6-Tlaa, B10.A, B10.AKM, B10.BR, B10.M, B10.S(7R), B10.S(9R), B10.Y, C57BR/cDJ, C58, NZB, PL/J, SJL, SWR/J. Qed-1b: A.AL, A.BY, AKR, A.SW, A.TL, BAN14, BALB.B10, BALB/cJ, BALB.C3H, B6-H-2k, B6.K1, B6.K2, B10.A(2R), B10.D2, B10.HTG, B10.HTT, CBA/J, C3H/HeJ, C3H/Tif, C3H.H-20, C3H.OL, C3H.Q, C3H.SW, C57BL/6J, C57BL/10ScSn, DBA/1, DBA/2.
