| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: 2. Con allelic with Sl. Contrasted (Con) is now regarded as allelic with steel for the following reasons: - (i) no recombination between Con and SldH in 196 offspring from testcrosses (MNL 46:27) (ii) Con/SldH females are completely sterile with very small ovaries, while ConCon females have one litter at most, (iii) Con also has haematological effects, lowering erythrocyte numbers in Con/SldH, ConCon and Con+ (as compared with SldH+, Con+ and ++) although packed cell volumes seem unaffected. Thus there is evidence for macrocytosis. Therefore it is proposed to call the gene Steel-contrasted in future, with symbol Slcon. (Searle and Beechey) |
