abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: d) Osteochondrodystrophy (ocd). This new recessive mutation arose in C3H/HeSn F93 in 1980. Homozygotes closely resemble bm/bm mutants. Phenotypic characteristics are a short slightly domed head, supination of the fore feet, disproportionately shortened long bones of the legs and a short thickened tail. Homozygous females are fertile but homozygous males have not sired litters. The mutation has been mapped to Chr 19. Allelism tests with bm and oc were negative. A repulsion intercross with ru has produced 145 + +, 28 ocd +, 68 + ru, 2 ocd ru, total 243, giving an estimated recombination with ru of 24.97 +/- 5.95%. In test crosses of seven F2 females ru +/ru -, 2 single crossovers in 14 chromosomes were found for a recombination estimate of 16.67 +/- 7.04 %. A repulsion intercross with abJ produced 280 ++, 93 ocd +, 95 + abJ, 7 ocd abJ, total 475, giving a recombination estimate with abJ of 30.76 +/- 4.10%. A coupling cross with abJ produced 134 + +, 16 ocd +, 30 + abJ, 27 ocd abJ, total 207, giving a recombination estimate with abJ in repulsion of 25.95 +/- 3.64%. Backcross matings with abJ in repulsion produced 9 + +, 14 ocd +, 16 + abJ, 3 ocd abJ, n=42, for a recombination estimate of 28.57 +/- 6.97%. Backcross matings with abJ in coupling produced 99 + +, 12 ocd +, 41 + abJ, 24 ocd abJ, n=216, for a recombination estimate of 24.54 +/- 2.93%. Combining all the ocd-abJ crosses gives an estimated recombination of 26.6 +/- 1.9 between these loci. No Dc ocd progeny have been recovered from a three point backcross (Dc + +/+ ocd abJ x + ocd abJ/+ ocd abJ n=174) or from a partial backcross (Dc + +I+ ocd abJ x + + + +/+ ocd abJ n=137), suggesting ocd is located near the centromere. Further crosses are in progress. Research on proteoglycan synthesis in ocd/ocd mutants is being done by N. Schwartz, University of Chicago. (Sweet) MNL 1989; 83:168. Correction: MNL 1988; 81:70: Osteochondrodystrophy (ocd). In the coupling backcross mating with abJ 24 ocd abJ is incorrect. The correct number is 64 ocd abJ. (Sweet)
