abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Linkage Data: 1. Submaxillary renin activity. A gene controlling basal and dihydrotestosterone-induced levels of submaxillary gland renin in female mice (Wilson et al., PNAS 74:1185) has been mapped to Chr 1 near Dip-1 using RI strains. In collaboration with C. Wilson, E, Erdos, and J. Wilson, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, 43 RI strains (24 BXDÕs, 14 AKXL's, 4 SWXLÕs, and the single HP/EiTy strain derived from C57BL/6J and AKR/J) were characterized as either High or low renin activity strains. In 42 of 43 RI strains there was concordant inheritance of renin activity and the dipeptidase-1 electrophoretic variant (Dip-1), indicating very close linkage (0.6 +/- 0.6 cM). The single case of recombination was found in the HP/EiTy strain. The joint segregation of Dip-1, the renin gene, and ald in the AKXL and HP/EiTy RI strains places the renin gene between Dip-1 and ald. Since the gene is thought to be regulatory rather than a structural gene we propose to call the locus renin regulator with the locus symbol Rnr. The allele designation for the high and low activity type strains (DBA/2J and C57BL/6J) are Rnrd and Rnrb, respectively. Other strains with the Rnr allele are AKR/J, AU/SsJ, BDP/J, BUB/BnJ, CBA/J, DBA/lJ, NZB/B1N, PL/J, RF/J, SJL/J, and SM/J. Other strains that carry the Rnrb allele are A/J, BALC/cJ, CBA/CaJ, CE/J, C3H/HeJ, C57BL/l0J, C57L/J, LP/J, SEA/GnJ and SEC/1ReJ. (Taylor) |
